Singhalese and Tamil New Year Celebrations 2016

Dear friends and supporters,

In Sri Lanka there is a saying that the new year begins when the cuckoo cries. The last school day before the Singhalese and Tamil New Year on 13/14 April was celebrated in our pre-school classes with the traditional symbols for these holidays: Whilst wearing new clothes the old year was drummed out and milk was boiled over in a clay pot. As part of the ceremonies the children and their parents built up a house together. The first meal in the new year involved plenty of home-cooked sweet desserts, whereupon good wishes for the New Year and small gifts were being exchanged.

In March two media reports about one world foundation were published:
Andreas Weber created a one hour broadcast for ORF’s “Radio Oberösterreich” about our project. Read and listen here. In her interview for Arterritory Una Meistere was much interested in the idea of the “Social Sculpture”, which forms an important basis of one world foundation.

Yours,
Kathrin Messner
