Dear friends and supporters

The current crisis shows us clearly that we all live in one world: The coronavirus does not stop at any country borders or differentiate between the population groups. In Sri Lanka there are only about 200 confirmed infection cases at present, but we have to expect a rapid increase and a high number of unknown cases. Here, the strategy is also to try hindering the spreading of the virus through curfews, and the schools including ours are closed at least until mid-May. On 13/14 April the Singhalese and Tamil New Year will be celebrated. This year the festivities cannot take place at the temples and they are restricted to the closest family circle.

The economic consequences of the crisis due to the current pandemic are drastic for many people in Sri Lanka who lose their jobs and means of existence. And they cannot expect any governmental support. As a small emergency aid one world foundation organised and distributed food packages for the poorest families of the region. You’ll find some photos of this aid project here.

Due to the entry restrictions and the closed airports our Ayurveda resort reports high losses of income. As the proceeds from the guest house are used to finance our educational programs and the approximately 40 teacher salaries, we are in immediate need of support. At the beginning of March the fashion project “Out of Garbage” took place at our Women’s Cooperation under the direction of Bettina Reichl and her assistant Irma Denk. Despite of the workshop’s interruption after just two weeks because of the school closure, the group already had created quite a few amazing pieces of clothing, made from garbage and natural materials.
